Type Caldera

El Aguajito (also known as Santa Ana ) is a caldera in Mexico on the Gulf of California immediately northeast of the Tres Virgenes volcano and northwest of the Caldera La Reforma . Its diameter is around 10 km, the highest point is 1300  m .

The rhyolitic caldera was formed in a powerful eruption about 760,000 years ago ( K-Ar dated ). Most of the ejected material was deposited in the Gulf of California. Some rhyolitic lava domes on the northern edge have been dated between 500,000 and 40,000 years ago, and some Dacite lava domes on the southern end of the caldera appear to be older. The geological Cimarron Fissure crosses the center of the caldera in a north-northeast-south-southwest orientation. There are hot springs at the southern end of the caldera. Seismic activity was recorded during geothermal explorations.
