Aguni-jima ( Japanese 粟 国 島 ) is an island of the Japanese Ryūkyū Islands .
geography
It has an area of 7.62 km² and is about 22 km north of Tonaki-jima . The eastern part of the island rises gently up to 20 m and is characterized by sandy beaches, while the western part then drops off steeply from 70 to 80 m high cliffs. In the western part there is also the highest point of the island with 95 m.
Aguni-jima is the only island that forms the village of the same name Aguni with 709 inhabitants. A ferry service is operated between Aguni-jima and Naha on Okinawa Hontō .
