Agutayan is the name of an island in the Misamis Oriental Province in the Philippines . It is located about 19 km off the north coast of Mindanao Island in Macajalar Bay , a sea area in the south of the Mindanao Sea . The island has an area of approximately 5 km² and is administered by the town of Jasaan .
Agutayan is a sandbank washed up on the crown of a coral reef with a coastline of around 9 km. The island is uninhabited and has no vegetation. But it is a popular diving area due to the shallow, clear waters . An approximately three hectare marine reserve was established in 1995 by the local authorities off the island's coastline. The coral reef is home to a great diversity of species, including various types of giant clams .
