Ahlainen ( Swedish Vittisbofjärd, formerly Hvittisbofjärd) is a village with about 1500 inhabitants in the Finnish landscape of Satakunta , which was incorporated into the city of Pori in 1972 .

The Ahlainen bell tower.

The place is about 23 km as the crow flies northwest of the city of Pori, 16 km northwest of Noormarkku and 12 km northeast of Reposaari not far from the sea. It takes a little more than half an hour to get to Pori by car. Ahlainen consists of the individual settlements Alakylä (Nederby), Anttoora (Antåra), Pastuskeri (Bastuskär), Kellahti (Källfjerd or Kjällfjärd), Lampaluoto, Lamppi, Pirttijärvi, Pohjajoki, Ylikkuu (Rankö) (Rankö), Suosmeri (Svosmeri) Överby). The Swedish names were all used earlier. At the beginning of the 20th century, the community at that time became increasingly Finnish-speaking.

In 1796 Salomon Köykkä-Köhlström designed the wooden church in Ahlainen. A bell tower designed by Berlin-born Carl Ludwig Engel was built next to it in 1832 . As in so many rural communities in Finland, the rural exodus was and is clearly demonstrated by numbers in Ahlainen. In the 1920s, around 4500 people lived in Ahlainen, in 1972, at the last official survey before the incorporation there were only 2438. At this time, less than 20% of all apartments were equipped with sanitary facilities, almost 90% had electricity. In 1997 about 1500 people lived in the village. Many of the houses are empty in winter and are used as holiday homes in summer.

In addition to the three Finnish former members of parliament Juho Aromaa (1878-1956), Kalevi Lamminen (* 1935) and Juho Vesterlund , Toini Pöysti (* 1933), who won two bronze medals at the Olympic Games in cross-country skiing, was born in Ahlainen.
