Ahmad Fatfat

Ahmad Fatfat (* 28. March 1953 in Syr El Dannieh ) was the interim - Interior Minister of Lebanon from 5 February to 24 November 2006. He has his predecessor after the sudden resignation this position Hassan Sabeh taken. Originally and in the period before that, he was Minister for Youth and Sport in the July 2005 government . He has been a member of the Lebanese parliament since 1996.

He was born to Mohammed Khodr Fatfat and Farida Jezzar Raad. He is married and has two sons. His family of origin is of Sunni faith . Since 1986 he has also taken Belgian citizenship.

After the fire in the Danish embassy and several churches in East Beirut's Christian quarters as a result of the cartoon dispute in February 2006, Fatfat accused “radical Shiite elements and “Christian problem makers allied with the Syrian regime” . He later had to withdraw this statement when it was found that all the troublemakers arrested by the Lebanese police that day were radical Sunni Islamists . Many of them belonged to Fatfat's own party.
