Ahmad I. al-Husain

Ahmad I. al-Husain († 1855 ) was Bey of Tunis (1837–1855).

Ahmad I took over the government from Mustafa al-Husain (1835-1837). Under him the modernization of the country began, which initially focused on the army and the navy . In addition, slavery was abolished and restrictions on Jews lifted in 1846 . The country's economic strength, which had been severely weakened by the outbreak of several cholera epidemics, was insufficient for further measures . Ahmad I's successor was Muhammad II al-Husain (1855-1859).
