Ai Mori ( Japanese 森 秋 彩 , Mori Ai ; born September 17, 2003 in Ibaraki Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese sport climber. In 2019, at the age of 15, she took third place at the World Championships in Tokyo in the lead discipline.

Career

Ai Mori made her climbing debut on an international level in 2017 at the Asian Youth Championships in Singapore , where she took first place in lead as well as third place in bouldering . In the same year she again won the lead gold medal at the World Youth Championships in Innsbruck and the silver medal in the combined discipline created for the 2020 Olympic Games . In the following year, he came second at the Japanese bouldering championships and at the Asian youth championships in the lead discipline. In 2019 she started at World Cups for the first time, where she also achieved a third place in bouldering in Wujiang , China and in the lead in Villars, Switzerland. In the same year she started at the World Championships in Tokyo and took third place in the lead. Along with world champion Janja Garnbret, she was the only one to achieve a top in a route in the second qualification run. In the combination she managed only sixth place, but she was the only athlete to reach the top in the qualification in difficulty climbing and as one of two athletes the final hold in the finals.
