Ailsa Craig is a small, sloping rock island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands , which is 1.5 km south of Point Rae off the south coast of Laurie Island .

It was mapped in 1903 by participants in the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition (1902-1904) under the direction of polar explorer William Speirs Bruce . Bruce named it after the Scottish island of the same name, Ailsa Craig, in the Firth of Clyde .
