Ain Traz

Ain Traz is a former seminary of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church , southeast of Beirut, Lebanon .

The property was initially the residence of the El Saad family . Patriarch Agapios II. Matar (1796-1812) founded the Ain Traz seminary in 1811. The Druze plundered the property in 1841, and it was reopened in 1870 by Patriarch Grégoire II. Youssef-Sayour . With the opening of the St. Anna seminary in Jerusalem , the seminary in Ain Traz was only used for official church acts.

In addition to a monastery, the property is the summer residence of the head of the church of the Melkite Patriarchs of Antioch , since 2001 of His Beatitude Gregorios III. Laham . Since 1948 it has been the seat of the Melkite Patriarchal Synod.
