The Ainu Times ( Japanese ア イ ヌ タ イ ム ズ , Ainu Taimuzu ) is a quarterly newspaper from Japan . It is published by the Ainugo-Penclub and has appeared quarterly since the first edition in March 1997. Its current editor is Takashi Hamada. The articles in the newspaper are written exclusively in Ainu , the language of the Ainu minority people in Hokkaidō . The articles are mainly written in Japanese katakana script, in some places also in Romaji . The volume is approximately 12 pages, whereby the content, due to the quarterly publication date, does not focus on current events. The Ainu Times has been published without interruption since its appearance and is now in its 46th edition ( as of November 2008 ). Linguistically, she tries to use traditional Ainu terms and only use Japanese loanwords in exceptional cases.

The Ainu Times is only available in stores in Sapporo ; it can also be obtained by subscription for 1500 yen per year. In addition to the Ainu edition, a Japanese translation is published every quarter, but offset by one quarter.
