Air (fusion band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Air was an American fusion band that formed in 1968 (initially as Ayr ) and existed until 1971.

The quartet consisted of Tom Coppola ( Hammond organ ), Googie Coppola (piano, vocals), John Siegler (bass) and Mark Rosengarden (drums) and initially accompanied Herbie Mann on international tours. The band's debut album of the same name was released on Embryo's label in 1971, and Randy Brecker , Michael Brecker , Barry Rogers , David Earle Johnson , Robert Kogel, Bob Rosengarden and Jan Hammer were also involved in the production. Most of the pieces are from Googie Coppola. The album was re-released several times. Two of the titles on it, Man Is Free and Realize , were covered by Monica Sunnerberg in Sweden in 1972 . Another album by the band, recorded in June and July 1971, partly with John Abercrombie , was not released.
