Barron W. "Barry" Rogers (born May 22, 1935 in the Bronx , New York City , † April 18, 1991 ) was an American jazz musician ( trombone , also vocals , Wagner tuba , alto horn , arrangement ) and music producer , mainly for his Contributions to salsa music is known.

Rogers comes from a musical family of Polish origin; his father and some of his uncles sang in Jossele Rosenblatt's synagogal choir . Through his mother he came into contact with records with folklore and popular music from West Africa, Mexico and the Caribbean, but also New York mambo music and developed an interest in African music . As a teenager he began to learn the trombone as a self-taught person . As a high school he attended the Bronx Vocational , where he played in a Latin combo that included Johnny Pacheco . He got to know Benny Bonilla, Rupert Branker, Arthur Jenkins and other interpreters of Latin American music from the Bronx. As early as the early 1950s he played Latin American music in Harlem and the Bronx, and since 1956 for several years in the orchestra of Hugo Dickens. He had also discovered jazz and attended jam sessions in local clubs.

The first recordings were made with the Alegre All Stars . In the 1960s he played in Eddie Palmieri's La Perfecta , with which he also appeared as a vocalist and recorded several albums (also with Cal Tjader ); there his trombone part was mostly fiery doubled, with the arrangements also reminding of the playing of JJ Johnson / Kai Winding . In the next few years he worked with Herbie Mann and occasionally again with Palmieri; he was involved in his Grammy- winning albums The Sun of Latin Music and Unfinished Masterpiece . As a producer, he was responsible for several Orquesta Broadway albums . As an instrumentalist he was also active for the Fania All-Stars , Machito , Celia Cruz , Tito Puente , Charlie Palmieri , Cheo Feliciano , Johnny Pacheco, Manny Oquendo and Henri Guédon .
