The professional association Aircraft Engineers International (AEI) was founded in 1971 and represents the common interests of over 40,000 members from 30 countries who work as technical personnel in the maintenance of aircraft in civil aviation . The mission of AEI is to give these licensed aircraft engineers a global voice by promoting the highest safety and maintenance standards worldwide through representation and support. In Germany, the AEI cooperates with the professional association Vereinigung Luftfahrt .

The board is democratically elected at the annual congresses. These conferences take place in the different countries. The Board of Directors meets regularly four times a year and, if the circumstances so require, also holds extraordinary meetings.
