history

Airds House was built for Donald Campbell, 5th of Airds in 1738, just a few years before the Jacobite Rebellion in 1745 , in which the Campbell clan was involved . The building was the headquarters of the Campbells of Airds until around 1840 and finally came into the possession of the McFie clan around 1850 . At that time, extensions were added to the rear and especially to the southeast side. There is a billiards and weapons room.

description

The central main wing of Airds House is built on three floors. Windows run in five axes across the front, with the three central window columns placed on the protruding entrance area. Its edges are set off by corner stones made of sandstone . The central entrance door is crowned by a simple segment arch . The part of the building ends with a decorated triangular gable . The clan coat of arms is embedded in this, flanked by two blind ox eyes . The facades are plastered using the traditional Harling technique. The wing of the building ends with a slate-covered hip roof . From the rear there are rounded corridors on both sides that lead to the two symmetrically arranged outbuildings. These identical, two-story buildings are kept simple. The edges of the building are also decorated with corner stones and a simple triangular gable with a blind ox-eye decorates the area below the gable roof .
