Aithusa (architecture)
Aithusa ( Greek ἡ αἴθουσα ) is called by Homer the open, pillared vestibule of a house. The atrium in front of it is called the prothyron ( τὸ πρόθυρον ).
Entrance areas corresponding to this description can already be found in the Mycenaean palaces of the 2nd millennium BC. And in early Greek house architecture of the 10th and 9th centuries BC Later it became a common feature of Greek temples .
