Aka Mortschiladze ( Georgian აკა მორჩილაძე ; born გიორგი ახვლედიანი / Giorgi Achwlediani ; born November 10, 1966 ) is a Georgian writer. He is considered one of the most widely read contemporary authors in Georgia .

Life

Mortschiladze studied history at the Tbilisi State University . After graduating in 1988, he worked at the university for several years. In the early 1990s he was a parliamentary reporter for the Tbilisi daily Resonansi , he also wrote for tabloids.

His main works are the stories or (short) novels Die Reise nach Karabach (1992), Dogs on Paliaschwili Straße (1995), Disappeared on Madatow Island (1998), Patience in August (2001), Witches of Christmas Night (2002) , Old Refugee Shop (2003) and Santa Esperanza (2004). In Georgia they always topped the bestseller lists. In 2003 alone, his books were sold 15,000 times.

The dogs on Paliaschwili Street were adapted as a play and premiered in 1999 in the Sandro Akhmeteli Theater in Tbilisi. It reflects Georgian life in the years after the reunification of 1992 and 1993.

By 2012, Mortschiladze was awarded the Saba Literature Prize five times ; By 2018 he had published twenty novels and three collections of short stories.

Mortschiladze is married and has children.
