The Academy of German Media is a training and further education institute for media professionals in publishing houses and organizations. The seat is in the Munich Literature House .

history

The non-profit organization was founded in 1993 on the initiative of the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels . Its original name was "Academy of the German Book Trade". Initially it was a training institute for publishing staff, editors, publishing clerks, sales people, authors and manufacturers with a focus on book publishers. With over 4,400 participants per year, 220 different training formats, 15 conferences, 80 certificate courses and an ever-expanding program, it has meanwhile developed into one of the major media academies.

The academy has been a non-profit company since 1999 , and the organization gave itself its current name in October 2014. A number of leading media companies are shareholders. The academy is also financially supported by the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture, Science and Art.

Content

With the name change in 2014, the range of topics also broadened. Target groups are no longer just employees of book publishers, but also employees of magazine and newspaper publishers as well as those responsible for press and communications in companies and marketing specialists. In accordance with their founding mandate to accompany the structural change in the media industry, the classic topics of book publishers have faded into the background in favor of topics related to digitization, digital media, content and online marketing. Cooperation partners include the Bundesverband Digitale Wirtschaft eV, the industry association Content Marketing Forum , the Association of German Magazine Publishers, the Bavarian Media Network and the Marketing Clubs in Munich and Berlin.
