Akcent is a Romanian boy band from Bucharest, Romania in the field of dance, pop and house music. The group became internationally known with songs such as Kylie , My Passion and Angel , which were also successful in Germany. Since 2013 only the founder Adrian Sînă has appeared under the name Akcent .
Band history
Akcent was founded in 1999 by radio DJ Adrian Sînă, initially as a duo. Together with the singer Ramona Barta he released the debut album Senzația in 2000 . The resulting single “Ultima vară” developed into one of the biggest hits of the year in Romania.
In 2001 Akcent became a four-piece boy band. New members of the band were Marius Nedelcu, Mihai Gruia and Sorin Ștefan Brotnei. The first joint recording was the single Ți-am promis and in 2002 the new line-up released the first album under the title În culori . Further albums followed in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
The band's international breakthrough came in 2005 with the song Dragoste de închiriat . The track was re-recorded under the title Kylie , a tribute to Kylie Minogue , and reached the singles charts of numerous European countries in November 2005, including Germany, the Netherlands and France.
In 2006 Akcent took part in the Romanian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest and took second place behind Mihai Trăistariu with the song Jokero . Jokero was able to build on the success of Kylie . The song also became a number one hit in Eastern Europe and also made it to the top 100 in Sweden and the Netherlands.
In April 2008 Marius Nedelcu left the band.
In the summer of 2009 Akcent landed a number 1 summer hit in Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Poland and other countries with the single That's My Name produced by Edward Maya . Due to the distinctive accordion part, the song has often been compared to the currently very successful song Stereo Love by its producer Edward Maya. The songs My Passion and Angel , which were released shortly afterwards, also achieved top 10 placements. The song Love Stoned , also known as How Deep Is Your Love , was released by the German record label Kontor Records , which made them a name for themselves once again in German-speaking Europe.
In August 2013 Mihai Gruia and Sorin Stefan Brotnei left the band. Adrian Sînă therefore continues the project alone. As an Akcent, he has remained true to the original style to this day. Another album was not released. In 2014 Sînă was able to maintain the success with the songs Kamelia and Faina .
