The lake, which is also known as "Akna" (Ակնա) or "Ayger" (Այգեր), in Aknalitsch

Aknalitsch ( Armenian Ակնալիճ ) is a village in the province of Armavir in Armenia . The village is located on a lake east of Mezamor and about 24 km west of Yerevan . The village is also right on the M5 main road . Aknalitsch is the site of the only Yezidi temple in Armenia. Ziyarat Temple was dedicated in 2013. Another temple called “Quba Mêrê Dîwanê” was dedicated in 2019.

The population of the village Aknalitsch include mainly Yazidis , a since 2002 recognized as an ethnic minority ethnic group.

religion

The village contains the largest Yazidi temple in the world, the Quba Mere Diwane temple , which opened in 2019 and is dedicated to Melek Taus . There is also the smaller Ziyarat Temple, which opened six years earlier .
