Akshamala (chain)

An Akshamala ( Sanskrit , f., अक्षमाला akṣamālā) is a prayer chain similar to a rosary . It serves, among other things, as an attribute of Indian deities, especially Brahmas . It can also be found in the literature under the Sanskrit name akṣasūtra (अक्षसूत्र).

The prayer beads are used in various forms in South Asia by Hindus , Muslims , Jainas , Christians and Buddhists . The "rosaries" of some deities can also consist of skulls.
