Al-Qatif (also Qatif and Katif ; Arabic القطيف, DMG al-Qaṭīf ) is an administrative district in the province of ash-Sharqiyya , the "Eastern Province" of Saudi Arabia .
history
Qatif is one of the oldest settlements in the region, the history of which dates back to 3500 BC. Goes back to BC . The explorer Ibn Battuta visited the place on his travel route 1325-1332.
Together with al-Hasa, Qatif is considered to be the settlement focus of the Saudi Twelve Shia and played a central role in connection with the protests in Saudi Arabia from 2011 onwards . Ayatollah and civil rights activist Nimr al-Nimr was sentenced to death for inciting rioting in Qatif.
