Al-Zahra College for Women

The Al-Zahra College for Women ( Arabic كلية الزهراء للبنات, DMG Kulliyyat az-Zahrāʾ li-l-Banāt ) is a private college in Oman . It was founded in 1999/2000 and is located in Muscat / Madinat al-Ilam .

history

The Al-Zahra College for Women (ZCW) started teaching with 50 female students in the 1999/2000 academic year. The college has been associated with Al-Ahliyyah Amman University (AAU) in Jordan from the start and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) of the Sultanate of Oman . Initially, it offered two-year diploma courses in computer science, accounting, business administration, finance & banking, English philology and literature. On April 13, 2003 MoHE allowed the diploma courses to be continued as Bachelor courses. A year later, in February 2004, the college applied to MoHE to allow the Bachelor's degree to be awarded in addition to the diploma courses, which was approved accordingly. Also in 2004 the ZCW was allowed to found the department for graphic design. The "Planning & Quality Assurance Department" was founded on September 1, 2005 for quality assurance and strategic planning.

The college has two main buildings. The IT and administration department is housed in a large villa. The other departments are housed in four neighboring buildings.

Structure and structure

The university currently consists of four departments:

  • English Language & Literature Department
  • Computer Technology Department
  • Commercial & Financial Sciences Department with its subdivisions
    • Business Administration Division
    • Financial & Banking Sciences Division
    • Accounting Division
  • Graphic Design Department

The university had a total of 87 employees in the 2005/06 academic year: 39 teachers, 2 teaching assistants, 17 administrative employees, 20 assistants and 12 workers.

Academic connection

All private higher education institutions in Oman must have an academic connection to a renowned international university or college. The Al Zahra College for Women maintains with the University of Sunderland , which awards the academic degree of a Bachelor (BSc (Hons) Applied Business Computing). There is also an academic connection to Al-Ahliyya Amman University in Jordan .

Students and Tuition Fees

A total of 1,016 women studied at the college in 2005 . The tuition fees for a Bachelor Degree are between RO 7,395 and RO 8,346 (approx. € 17,000).

All courses can also be completed with a two-year diploma.

Conditions for registration

The admission requirement is at least 50% of the Certificate of General Education, which is a relatively low hurdle for admission.
