Ala ( Belarusian Ала and Russian Ола Ola ) was a village on the tributary of the same name of the Bjaresina in Belarus . On January 14, 1944, it was completely destroyed by German soldiers.

Course of the massacre

Many refugees from surrounding villages who were persecuted by the Germans settled in the small village of Ala. On January 14, 1944, German soldiers entered the village at 6 a.m. and scared off the residents with warning shots and barking dogs. Shortly afterwards, the houses were doused with flammable liquid and set on fire. At the same time, the community was bombarded with grenades and people who tried to escape were shot down with machine guns. A total of 1,758 people died. Including more than 1,500 refugees from other villages. The village immortalized its name in the National Memorial of the Republic of Belarus .
