The Danube Clinic on the banks of the Danube in Neu-Ulm

The Danube Clinic Neu-Ulm (until 1998: Städtisches Krankenhaus Neu-Ulm ) is a basic and standard care hospital in the Bavarian district town of Neu-Ulm . Today (as of the last expansion in 2014) the house has 170 beds in nine main medical departments and attending medical departments. In 2016, around 11,193 inpatients and around 19,078 outpatients were treated in the clinic.

Since 2005, all three clinics in the Neu-Ulm district (the Donauklinik Neu-Ulm , the Stiftungsklinik Weißenhorn and the Illertalklinik Illertissen ) have been combined in a clinic group. The common sponsor is the Kreisspitalstiftung Weißenhorn , a district municipal foundation under public law under the supervision of the district. The management of the clinics of the Kreisspitalstiftung Weißenhorn is incumbent on the foundation director Marc Engelhard and the medical director Andreas Keller.

The clinic building is located at Krankenhausstrasse 11 in downtown Neu-Ulm, directly on the Bavarian bank of the Danube . The Danube Clinic therefore sees itself as the “only city hospital for the people of Neu-Ulm and Ulm” (District Administrator Erich Josef Geßner , 2014).

history

Today's Danube Clinic is the successor to the Neu-Ulm City Hospital founded in 1887 . The hospital's capacities were initially only 35 beds, but were expanded to 70 beds in 1934/1935, to 116 beds in 1955 to 1957 and to 226 beds in 1973. Also in 1973, the sponsorship for the hospital was transferred from the city to the Neu-Ulm district . Since 1998, the hospital has been known as the Danube Clinic Neu-Ulm, as it is known today .

In 2000 the Hamburg Asklepios Kliniken GmbH took over the hospital. Just five years later, on January 1, 2005, the clinic again changed its operator by donating it to the Weißenhorn district hospital foundation. Since then, together with the Weißenhorn Foundation Clinic and the Illertalklinik Illertissen, it has formed the Clinic Association of the Weissenhorn District Hospital Foundation .

In 2014, the last extension to the Danube Clinic to date (as of 2016) was opened, the Südwest ward block , a round building with a four-story connecting structure. The new building houses 66 beds in two and three-bed rooms, the clinic laboratory, the physical therapy department and the clinic administration. With the inauguration of the new ward building, the last of a total of four construction phases of the total renovation of the clinic building, which has been going on since 1988 and cost around 68 million euros, was completed.

In its current state of expansion, the Danube Clinic has a total of 170 beds in nine main medical departments and attending medical departments as well as other functional departments and service facilities.
