Ala Rusonis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ala Rusonis ( German  Ala des Ruso ) was a Roman auxiliary unit . It is evidenced by an inscription.

Name components

  • Rusonis : of the Ruso. One of the unit's first commanders was believed to be an otherwise unknown Ruso , after whom the Ala was named.

Since there is no reference to the addition of milliaria (1000 men) to the name , the unit was an Ala quingenaria . The nominal strength of the Ala was 480 men, consisting of 16 towers with 30 riders each.

history

The gravestone of Adbogius was found in Mainz ; therefore the unit was probably stationed in the province of Germania . Since there is no evidence of its later existence, John Spaul suspects that the Ala may have been renamed Ala Picentiana or was merged with another entity.

Locations

Locations of the Ala are not known.

Members of the Ala

A member of the Ala, Adbogius , a horseman, is known by the inscription ( CIL 13, 7031 ).
