The Alabama State Route 101 (abbreviated AL 101 ) is a state highway in the US state of Alabama , which runs north-south direction.

The State Route begins on the former route of Alabama State Route 24 west of Moulton and ends after 63 kilometers near Lexington on the border with the state of Tennessee. After the border, the road continues as Tennessee State Route 227 .

About two kilometers after the start of AL 101, it meets the new State Route 24. In the village of Ne Smith , the road is crossed by Alabama State Route 157 and in Town Creek by State Route 20 . About five kilometers after the junction of Alabama State Route 184 , the AL 101 crosses the Tennessee River at Wheeler Dam . In the south of the village of Elgin , the State Route meets US Highway 72 and in the north of Lexington on Alabama State Route 64 , before merging into Tennessee State Route 277 on the border with Tennessee.

history

The Alabama State Route opened in 1940 as a link between Lexington and Town Creek. After 19 years, the route was expanded in 1959 by a southern section to the former State Route 24.
