The Alabama State Route 49 (abbreviated AL 49 ) is a state highway in the US state of Alabama , which runs north-south direction.

The State Route begins on Interstate 85 in Franklin and ends at Cheaha State Park on Alabama Stata Route 281 . First runs north to Dadeville on US Highway 280 , which leads to Alexander City and Birmingham , among other places . To the north of Dadeville, the AL 49 crosses rural areas and small towns such as New Site or Mellow Valley .

history

The State Route originally ran from Tallassee to Dadeville. After some northern extensions between 1950 and 1969, the road ended near Heflin on US Highway 78 . In 1973, AL 49 was extended south to I-85. The last big change came in 1995 when the new AL 281 replaced the northern part.
