Alain Tabbagh

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alain Tabbagh (* 1947 ) is a French geophysicist .

Tabbagh received his diploma in physics in 1969, passed the first part of his doctorate in 1971 (Thèse de 3ème cycle) and in 1977 the second part (Thèse d'Etat). From 1972 he was assistant at the University of Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie), in 1978 senior assistant (maitre assistant), in 1985 maitre de conférences and in 1988 professor of applied physics. He is now Professor Emeritus.

He is known for his contributions in the field of geoelectric and electromagnetic exploration of near-surface layers and the development of galvanically separated measuring devices with capacitive coupling. The tests took place on the streets of Montreal and resulted in commercial applications. He demonstrated the simultaneous recording of electrical resistance of the soil and magnetic susceptibility with the Slingram antenna configuration with applications in archeology and agriculture (3D modeling, use of direct current and alternating currents of medium and high frequencies).

He also dealt with hydrogeophysics, environmental geophysics, hydrogeology, soil science, applications in civil engineering and archeology as well as near-surface geothermal exploration (with the development of new measuring devices and FEM models). In 1981 he and Perisset demonstrated the use of infrared exploration in archeology.

In 2015 he received the Conrad Schlumberger Award . In 2012 he led the Near Surface Geoscience Conference in Paris.
