Alan Rowland Chisholm

Alan Rowland Chisholm (born November 6, 1888 in Bathurst (New South Wales) , † September 10, 1981 in Melbourne ) was an Australian Romance studies and literary scholar.

life and work

Chisholm studied in Sydney and from 1912 in Berlin, Paris and Leipzig. From 1915 to 1918 he did military service on the French front and from 1921 to 1956 he was Professor of French at the University of Melbourne . Lloyd James Austin was one of his students . Chisholm, like Austin later, researched Mallarmé, to which he had been made aware by Christopher Brennan .
