Albert-Jan Pool

Albert-Jan Pool (born July 9, 1960 in Amsterdam ) is a Dutch type designer , typographer and graphic designer .

biography

Pool studied at the Royal Academy in The Hague and began his career as a type designer, typographer and graphic designer in Germany in 1987. Among other things, he worked as Type Director at Scangraphic and URW Type Foundry . At the suggestion of Erik Spiekermann , Pool designed the FF OCR-F font based on OCR-B and the FF DIN based on DIN 1451 . The latter is one of the most successful fonts in the FontFont library at FSI FontShop International . In 1999 he founded the FarbTon Konzept und Design agency together with Birgit Hartmann, Jörn Iken and Klaus-Peter Staudinger. After leaving the agency in 2005, he returned to font design and teaching. The FF DIN Round font family appeared in 2010. From 2006 to 2008 he taught typography at the Hanseatic Academy for Marketing and Media in Hamburg, and since 2006 he has been a lecturer for type design at the Muthesius Kunsthochschule Kiel . Since 2010 he has been chairman of the “Fonts” committee at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization , where he was responsible for the new edition of DIN 1450 - Fonts, Legibility (published in 2013).
