Albert Zabel

Albert Heinrich Zabel (born February 22, 1834 in Berlin , † February 16, 1910 in Saint Petersburg ) was a German composer and harp virtuoso .

Life

A scholarship from Giacomo Meyerbeer enabled Albert Zabel to learn to play the harp at the Royal Institute for Church Music in Berlin . After various tours in Europe, Russia and the United States, he was a soloist at the Berlin Opera from 1848 to 1851. In 1855 he was appointed principal harpist at the imperial ballet in Saint Petersburg. When the Conservatory was founded in 1862, Anton Rubinstein made use of his services as a harp professor. In 1879 he received the title of full professor, in 1904 the honorary title of "Honored Professor".
