Alberto Medina Briseño (born May 29, 1983 in Culiacán , Sinaloa ) is a Mexican football player who is mostly used on the offensive flanks and is considered a lightning-fast and tricky player. He is also known by his nickname El Venado ( dt. The red deer ), which he received because of his speed.

Career

Medina is one of the few players who made his professional debut at the age of 17. He made this debut in the shirt of Club Deportivo Guadalajara , for which he still plays. He played his first game for Chivas on August 20, 2000 against León AC , the first game for the Mexican national team at the age of just 19 on April 30, 2003 against Brazil .

Medina also took part in the Confederations Cup 2005 , in which he - with the exception of the opening game against Japan - was used a total of four times as a "joker", so was substituted in the second half. For the 2006 World Cup , however, he was not appointed to the squad.

Under coach Hugo Sánchez , he was brought back to the national team and was part of the successful team that won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2009 .

Medina has scored four international goals so far: his first in the 2-0 win against Guatemala on November 10, 2004 and the golden goal in each of the 1-0 victories against Jamaica (July 13, 2005), Senegal (May 10, 2010) and Chile (May 16, 2010). In addition, in the unofficial international friendship game between Mexico and Gambia on May 30, 2010 in Bayreuth, Medina scored the final goal in the 81st minute to make it 5-1.
