Alberto Moncada

Alberto Moncada Lorenzo (born November 4, 1930 in Ceuta ) is a Spanish sociologist with a doctorate in law. He has taught in Madrid and at various US universities (including Stanford) and was Vice-President of the Spanish Office of UNESCO and President of Sociologists without Borders International . In 1969 he was co-founder and first vice-rector of under the influence of Opus Dei standing Universidad de Piura in Lima (Peru). Due to his experiences as a former Opus Dei member, he developed a critical attitude towards the organization.

Moncada has written over 30 mostly Spanish-language books, including a. on the subjects of human rights , fundamentalism , education and latino culture. He is a sharp critic of neoliberalism and criticizes the widespread view in the USA that civil and political civil rights are to be equated with human rights.

Moncada lives in Gandía .
