Albine Accent

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Albin Accent (also Albin 26 or Accent 26) is a type of sailing yacht of which around 600 were built by 1980 at the Albin Marin AB shipyard in Kristinehamn , Sweden . The boat type was designed in 1974 by yacht designer Peter Norlin .

development

The boat was drawn by the well-known Swedish designer and sailor Peter Norlin. It was initially planned as a single piece to take part in regattas. The prototype was made by Arne Jonsson from form-glued plywood as a flush decker, i.e. without essential deck structures. In 1974 the ¼ tonne world championship took place in front of Malmö. The field consisted of about 40 boats. Norlin won the regatta. The success at the World Cup meant that series production was being considered. First the boat had to be redesigned, but the hull and the underwater hull remained the same. A family cruiser with five berths was to be created. For this purpose, a cabin structure was created in order to achieve standing height (173 cm), the cockpit was redesigned and a facility was constructed. In order to keep the price low, versions in ¾-finished condition were also offered, in which the equipment could be completed by the owner from prefabricated parts. The first 650 boats were built at Albin Marin AB in Kristinehamn until 1980, after which the molds went to the Mörebas company in Norway, which manufactured another 150 boats in unchanged form.

Design features

The Albin 26 has a very modern underwater hull for the time, which allowed high speeds for this boat. The placement of the built-in diesel under the forward berths is very unusual. When sailing with the crew in the cockpit, this results in a boat that is well-balanced in terms of weight. Another very unusual construction detail in the interior is the galley on the starboard side of the cabin. On the port side there is an L-sofa and the table. The boat has a separate toilet room between the cabin and foredeck. There are still 2 dog berths under the cockpit benches, which leads to a total of 5½ berths on this sailboat. After the prototype was built in molded plywood, the series boats were built in GRP. The interior work was done in mahogany.

Rig

The prototype and the first 50 boats had a 7/8 rig, which is still modern today. After that, for unknown reasons, a top rigged rig was used. Mainly masts from Elvström, Gullmarsimporten and Isomat were used. The mast is supported by an upper shroud and two lower shrouds on each side of the ship, fore and aft stay.

present

Most of the boats built are in Scandinavia. There are active class associations in Denmark and Sweden.
