The Alcedo is one of the smallest and lowest of 6 shield volcanoes on the Galápagos island of Isabela . He is also known as the Volcan Calderon.
Its height is 1,130 meters and its last eruption occurred in 1993 on the southern part of the caldera. Most of its slopes and the caldera are forested, but the northern flank is dominated by young lava flows. The Alcedo is the only volcano in the Galapagos Islands that has produced both rhyolite and basaltic lava. There is an active geothermal field in the caldera . Historical records confirm another eruption around 1953 (± 7 years) on the southeast flank near Cartago Bay.
