Aldo Marinelli
Aldo Marinelli (* 1413 ; † 1451 ) was a Latin poet of humanism .
Little is known about the poet's life. Marinelli came from the northern Italian city of Mantua and was a fellow student of Basinio Basini and Maffeo Vegio in Parma. At the age of sixteen he wrote an elegiac poem entitled Lyxandra , which (with numerous references to the Kirke and Medea stories) describes the love between a young man named Charis and the witch Lyxandra in almost 300 verses. Unlike Basinio da Parma , his attempt to find support as a poet at the court of the Este in Ferrara with a panegyric mythical representation of the Este family ( Ausonias , around 1200 hexameters ) does not seem to have succeeded. A few verses in the Praefatio to his most extensive work Hadriaticum (six books, about 5000 verses), a collection of sagas and myths of the Adriatic, seem to indicate that he found his livelihood at the court of the Malatesta in Rimini. Marinelli died in 1451 on a return trip from Rome to Rimini and was buried in Sassoferrato . His poetic work was first printed in Mantua in 1851 on the 400th anniversary of his death.
