Alegría ( Spanish for: joy ) is the soundtrack and for the Cirque du Soleil show of the same name .

The text consists partly of Spanish, English and Italian poetry.

Alegría's music was released as a studio album on September 27, 1994. Produced by Robbi Finkel, it remains the Cirque du Soleil's best-selling album to this day, having sold more than 500,000 times worldwide. Robbi Finkel and René Dupéré were nominated for best arrangers at the 1996 Grammy Awards . The album was nominated for several Félix Awards in 1995 and won two of them: " Producer of the Year " (Robbi Finkel and René Dupéré) and " Sound Mixer of the Year " (Rob Heaney). Alegría was also on the Billboard charts for 65 weeks .

The French-Canadian opera singer Francesca Gagnon took on the lead vocals .

Several versions of the soundtrack have been recorded since its original release. Two tracks titled " Cerceaux " and " Malioumba " were recorded on live shows during the 2001 season in Sydney. In 2002, the Alegria soundtrack was re-recorded by Cirque du Soleil Musique Inc. In 1995 a limited staff edition, Alegría - Live at Fairfax , was created for the artists and the production crew. This special edition contains the entire score on CD and is considered a collector's item.
