Aleksandar Popović (born November 20, 1929 in Ub , Kingdom of Yugoslavia , † October 9, 1996 , Belgrade , Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ) was a Yugoslavian writer.

Life

Popović was born in Ub, a city in northwest Serbia , and graduated from high school in Belgrade. He began to study mathematics but turned to writing poetry. He became a candidate for the Serbian Writers' Association . In the 1940s, he spent five years on the Yugoslav prison island in the Dalmatian Adriatic Goli Otok , the Naked Island .

In the 1950s he began writing radio stories for children in collaboration with Dušan Radović for Radio Belgrade , which was followed by scripts for television games and television series. Since 1959 he has written dramas and comedies for the theater. The total works amount to about 50 plays, which often depict life in a satirical / comedic way, and have been performed both in Yugoslavia and abroad.
