Ub (Serbian Уб ) is a municipality in the Okrug Kolubara in Serbia . In 2019 over 30,000 people lived in the city.
Ub is located on the Ubača River (junction of the Great Sava River) at the foot of the mountains of the Divcibare ski area

National road 22 ( E 763 from Belgrade to Bijelo Polje ) in the east is about 20 km away. To Koceljeva and Druzetić in the west it is 10 km each and Valjevo in the southwest is 20 km away.
The nearest international airport, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport, is around 45 km away.
The new motorway “Milos Veliki” is in the city and thus it has a perfect connection to Beograd (SRB) -bar (MNE).

history
Prehistoric traces testify to an early settlement of the area around Ub. Remains of the Vinča culture (approx. 5000 BC) were found near Trlica, Kalinovac and Brgule . Objects from the Bronze Age were discovered near the village of Čučuge .
Origin of name
According to legend, the word "Ub" is derived from the Latin word "urbs" = "place".
According to Old Slavic legends, the place was built during the reign of Prince Kocelj and named after his brother Slavoljub. Over time the name was shortened to "Ub".
economy
There are several mines and resource centers of coal (Radljevo field - 344 million tones, Zvizdar field - 280 million tones), clay, sand, stone and limestone. The largest producer of quartz sand in Serbia is "Kopovi ad" with a total production of over 400,000 tons per year. Ub Municipality is the largest supplier of high quality clay in Serbia.
Sports
The football club FK Jedinstvo Ub was founded in 1920. The Yugoslav soccer player Dragan Dzajic also played there .
