Aleksandrs Mirskis ( Russian Александр Томасович Мирский , Alexander Tomassowitsch Mirski, born March 20, 1964 in Vilnius ) is a Latvian politician of the Russian-affiliated party Center of Harmony .

Life

Mirskis completed his degree in civil engineering at the Polytechnic Institute in Kaunas and worked as a project manager in the construction sector from 1986 to 1989. This was followed by military service in the Soviet Army , in which he was the commander of a radiation detection unit and a lieutenant colonel. After his military service he returned to his old job. In 1992 he became technical director and in 1999 general director of a construction company. In 2001 he switched to politics, until 2005 he was an advisor to the mayor of Riga . In 2006 he was elected to the Saeima , where he was deputy group leader. From 2009 to 2014 he was a member of the European Parliament .
