Alexei Ivanovich Yekimov

Alexei Iwanowitsch Jekimow ( Russian Алексей Иванович Екимов , also transcribed as Aleksei Ekimov ; * February 28, 1945 ) is a Russian physicist .

Together with Louis Brus and Alexander Efros, Jekimow discovered colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals, known as quantum dots .

Ekimov received the Ph.D. and a PhD in Physics from the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute in Leningrad , Russia . He received the State Prize in Physics and Technology of the USSR and the Alexander von Humboldt Prize for his work on quantum dots and is the owner of several patents.
