Aletar is a submarine cable system that went into operation on April 7, 1997 for data exchange between Egypt and Syria .

Owners are Egyptian Telecom (46.875%), Syrian Telecom (46.875%) and the Lebanese Ministry of Telecommunications (6.25%). The cable is 787 km long and has a capacity of 5 Gbit / s. It has two pairs of fiber optic cables and 8 optical amplifiers .
