Alex John

Alex John (born May 4, 1964 in Lenderby ) is a German-British artist who is assigned to Conceptual Art and Appropriation Art . He was represented at the Biennale di Venezia in 2007 and 2009 , but turned down an invitation to the XIII. Documenta in Kassel in 2012.

Life

Alex John was born on May 4th 1964 in Lenderby near Leicester to the pharmacist Steffen John and the art historian Anita Angler. There he grew up with his sister Stephanie, two years older than him. From 1971 to 1975 he attended the local Enderby Danemill Primary School before he switched to Brockington College and took his A-Levels there. After a discontinued training as a heating fitter, he began to study fine art at the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London a. a. with Richard Deacon.

Alex John is strongly influenced in his works by the early works of Sherrie Levine, whereby he makes generous use of the images of avant-garde artists such as Henri Matisse or Joachim Ringelnatz . Although John's work is largely unknown, most recently his works achieved Not everybody has a golden toilet! as well as moonlight sonata in a pickle jar at the spring auctions in New York top prices.
