Alexander Frenkel ( Ukrainian Олександр Френкель; born March 4, 1985 in Kirowohrad , Soviet Union , now Ukraine ) is a German boxer and former European cruiserweight champion .

Life

Born in Ukraine, Frenkel has lived in Germany since 1991 and grew up in Würzburg ; He currently lives in Berlin and started boxing at the age of 13. His amateur record was 55 wins in 60 fights. As an amateur, he boxed for Kickers Würzburg and BC Ringfrei Mülheim, among others, was three times Bavarian champion and won the 2006 Dolomites Cup in Austria.

Professional career

Alexander Frenkel made his professional debut on September 23, 2006. His coach is Ulli Wegner , his manager Wilfried Sauerland . In his 14th professional fight in February 2008 in Nuremberg , he defeated the 43-year-old American Arthur Williams, who was briefly IBF cruiserweight world champion in the late 1990s, by technical knockout in the fifth round. This was followed on May 17, 2008 by a knockout win in the first round against Cory Phelps; Frenkel thus secured his first title, the IBF Junior World Champion . Frenkel was then unable to fight for almost a year due to an injury to his batting hand, which required a total of five operations, and only returned to the ring in April 2009 with a win against South African Ruben Groenewald. As a result, he beat, among others, the former IBF world champion Kelvin Davis and the former amateur world champion in light heavyweight Michael Simms .

His biggest success achieved Frenkel 18 September 2010 when he was in Birmingham former WBO world champion and reigning European champion Enzo Maccarinelli defeated by knockout. In the seventh round and won the European cruiserweight title.
