Alexander Herzberg (engineer)

Alexander Herzberg (born December 8, 1841 in Kamen , † November 27, 1912 in Norderney ) was a German engineer .

Life

Alexander Herzberg attended the Royal Provincial Trade School in Bochum, where he received his school-leaving certificate in 1858. After two years of practical work in mechanical engineering, he studied from 1860 to 1863 at the Royal Commercial Institute in Berlin. After completing his studies, Herzberg worked as an engineer for various companies and in 1876 became a partner in the Berlin company Börner & Co., which traded as Börner & Herzberg from 1892. With Hermann Rietschel and Rudolf Henneberg , he directed the Berlin Hygiene Exhibition in 1883. In 1885 he became managing director of the Hygienic Association . Herzberg was an advisor to the Prussian Ministry of Agriculture. Herzberg worked as a water supply expert in both Athens and Constantinople. He was one of the founders of the Association for Water Supply and Wastewater Disposal and together with Oskar Lassar founded the German Society for Public Baths .

Herzberg had been a member of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) since 1872 and long-time chairman of the Berlin District Association of the VDI, since 1889 a member of the Association for the Promotion of Industry and since 1902 a member of the Shipbuilding Society .

Since 1906 Herzberg was a member of the Berlin city ​​council.

Alexander Herzberg died in November 1912 as a result of a stroke while on vacation on the island of Norderney.
