Alexander Markunzow ( Russian Александр Маркунцов , born February 21, 1982 in Leningrad , Soviet Union ) is a former Russian figure skater who started in pair skating . In his greatest successes, he started for Japan .

Life

Markunzow began figure skating training in 1987. First he started in pair skating with Valentina Rasskasowa.

From 1999 he started with Yūko Kawaguchi . The Kawaguchi / Markunzow couple were the first to win a medal for Japan at the ISU Junior World Championships. They were trained by Tamara Moskwina and ended their partnership after the 2002/03 season.
