Alexander Sergejewitsch Sokolow ( Russian Александр Сергеевич Соколов ; born August 8, 1949 in Leningrad ) is a Russian politician and musicologist.

Life

Alexander Sokolow studied music at the Gnessin Institute in Moscow and at the Moscow Conservatory . Since 1979 he has taught at the Moscow Conservatory and has been a university lecturer there since 1993. Sokolov was Minister of Culture in Russia from March 9, 2004 to May 12, 2008 . Since 2006 he has been President of the Board of Directors of the Moscow Conservatory. Sokolow is married and has one child.
