Alexander Vogelgsang

Alexander Vogelgsang (born October 30, 1944 in Bayrischzell ) is a former German local politician ( SPD ).

Career

Vogelgsang grew up in Ulm. After graduating from high school, he studied economics in Berlin from 1964 to 1966 and for two more years in Basel. In 1968 he graduated with a degree in economics. He initially worked as a project manager at the economic research institute Prognos in Basel. In 1974 he moved to the Federal Chancellery as an economic policy advisor. From 1977 to 1983 he headed the department for political and social planning there. From 1983 to 1986 he was an economic policy advisor in the Bonn office of Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt .

In February 1986 he was elected Lord Mayor of Böblingen and confirmed in office in 1994 and 2002. On the occasion of his departure, he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Böblingen in February 2010. On November 10, 2010, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st Class , for his decades of service as Lord Mayor .
