Alexander Wassiljewitsch Schljakhturow

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alexander Wassiljewitsch Schljachturow (* 1947) is a former lieutenant general of the Russian military intelligence service Glawnoje Raswedyvatelnoje Uprawlenije (GRU). The predecessor in the GRU was Valentin Korabelnikow until 2009 and was replaced without explanation by the Russian government under Medvedev . Shljakhturov initiated reforms in the secret service and reduced the number of officers by more than a thousand and the number of generals from more than 100 to 20. According to speculations in the Russian media, this was the reason for his departure in 2011, but the Ministry of Defense justified his departure from the GRU upon reaching retirement age. He was succeeded by Igor Dmitrievich Sergun .
