Alexander Vladimirovich Sacharkin

Alexander Vladimirovich Sacharkin ( Russian Александр Владимирович Захаркин ; born August 1, 1961 in Martyush , Sverdlovsk Oblast ) is the founder of the independent trade union Profswoboda at the Russian gas and oil company Surgutneftegas . In 2008 he received the Radebeul Courage Prize .

The Union

The union founded by Sacharkin called for a minimum wage: "According to international standards, no work should be paid for less than three US dollars an hour" (quote from Sacharkin). To this end, forty members of the NBP occupied the corporate headquarters of Surgutneftegas in Moscow at the beginning of November 2006 , and representatives of the NBP and the Russian Communist Workers' Party (RKRP) appeared at a rally in Profswoboda . Union founder and crane operator Alexander Sacharkin has reduced his wages to a minimum by management. He then went on a hunger strike. After 16 days, he was released from the company.

As of January 2007, the fixed and safe portion of the wages was increased from 30 to 40 percent.

On August 27, 2008, Alexander Sacharkin received the Radebeul Courage Prize endowed with 5000 euros .
